Student Work: Visual Research Collages
A range of visual research collages produced by students in GRA 3735: Intro to Multimedia Systems. At the beginning of the semester, students were asked to find a hand-held object that evokes an action and (hopefully) some sort of personal response. Over the course of the semester, we have explored a range of methods for creating iconic and expressive visual representations of the chosen objects.

The first challenge was to create a mind-map of words and phrases that are directly and indirectly associated with the objects. After completing the lists, the students were then asked to do visual research — based on their mind-map terminology — online and then construct handmade collages of their findings. The collages are then studied for repeated elements such as colors, forms, iconography, symbols, etc. in future assignments.
